Lots of beautiful things to experience
Art and culture are just as much a part of southern Carinthia as the traditional Carinthian cuisine. Our region has always been particularly famous for the Jauntaler Had'n, the wine and the Jauntaler salami. Cultural highlights include numerous museums and exhibitions - from modern art to one of the most beautiful collections in the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul. And in the evening you can visit one of the open-air theaters. The numerous Buschenschenken nearby offer regional farm specialties and invite you to a leisurely culinary excursion.
Highlights
Archäologisches Pilgermuseum Hemmaberg - Juenna
The new archaeological pilgrimage museum Hemmaberg-Juenna opens a door to the historical past of Globasnitz. In addition to the numerous finds that have come to light during the 20-year-long excavations at Hemmaberg, the pilgrimage museum also contains a replica of the recently discovered Ostrogothic burial ground. www.museum-globasnitz.at
Werner Berg Galery
Werner Berg is one of Austria's most important artists of the 20th century. His paintings, which were inspired by German Expressionism, provide an insight into the soul of the South Carinthian landscape and the people who live there. www.wernerberg.museum
Museum Liaunig
The museum, with its impressive architecture, contains contemporary art and - as an interesting counterpoint - a collection of Akan gold objects. www.museumliaunig.at
Monastery St. Paul
One of the most comprehensive art collections in Europe has rightly given the Benedictine monastery the title of "Carinthia's treasure house". The most important monastic book collection in Austria includes the oldest book in Austria from the 5th century and Gutenberg's first printed work from around 1450. www.stift-stpaul.at
